permanent vacation are delighted to bring you the second chapter of the first space oddities saga compiled by alexis le-tan (music journalist and member of the tigersushi bass system) and jess (formerly of the famed french house duo jess & crabbe and now drummer for punk band 10lec6). the pair met in 2001 through a mutual love of no-wave and leftfield disco. in 2003 jess came upon a big collection of library music, which he bought for next to nothing. whilst he was ciphering through it and finding the most interesting extracts, alexis was digging in all things cosmic, where along the way he also started to pick up many bits and pieces of obscure mood musics. in 2007, they put together some of their best space disco treasures giving birth to the highly acclaimed space oddities project released last july. as the first episode of space oddities was reaching to an end and following the amazing feedback they received, the parisian duo started working on the next volume in the heat of 2008’s sunny days. a new direction was chosen: more organic, guitar lead and psychedelic than the previous one, still focusing on the dancefloor and their love for freaky synths and fierce beats.

with electric rescue, the french dj d jedi, who is known all over paris, becomes a part of the cocoon family. he is connected with the development of techno in france already since the beginning of the nineties. despite being busy as a producer for commercials and soundtracks, he always finds some time to release exciting electronic music on imprints such as f comm, communique, elp media and paul nazcas label scandium, where he has released his debut album >el.ue< three years ago. with the two tracks on >the darkest star<, electric rescue succeeds in the daring feat of transforming the energy of rave tracks from the early nineties into the present time without producing an anachronistic impression. besides a tectonically shaking bass drum, the title track relies on the power of sound, a superlative of raw club energy with a twist of irony, which can set a surprising climax with a steadily rising noise level, even after almost ten minutes. >the devils dance< is grafting a comparably brute state-of-emergency techno in a somehow restrained way, rhythm-wise, but is no less effective with its distinctive acid sound effects. and who said that modern techno cant use the tradition of belgian rave-signal-floor-burners?

big love go from strength to strength next up for them is up n coming french producer romain curtis teams up with seamus haji and rising swedish star awa on vocals for this sublime track that should do the biznizz this summer. romains club mix has an infectious feel and teases the chorus vocal to crowd-pleasing results. seamus hajis vocal mix rushes straight to the top of the anthemometer whilst his dub goes deeper and tuffer with a slight tribal edge. all round dirty/techy/funker filthy rich really goes for the peak time slot making great use of the vocal for light relief

abusing our soft side for dub edgar 9000 gave us these compelling tracks.>play me minus three (patience vs. epiphany mix)< û what starts like a nicely arranged minimal tune bubbles and billows after a short pause up to a big ride on the acid-dub-ghost-train. at the latest when the decently deployed and gated french horn pad sets in on the second half you are completely lost. not for quick peep û but beware: danger of addiction of endless playing is definitely given.meanwhile the title >hook & bait< of the b-side rather reads like the basic principle of fishing. it really sounds like the classic principle of ambient à well almost, since in this case this ambient track is drifting along itself, underlined with a straight driving and floating rhythm fed by an earthly bassline.petri heil! dojo is about getting back to the roots of american techno and house, and getting away from the computer. we want to help bring back the spontaneity and freedom of live performance and recordings. we want to celebrate the raw physicality of the music, and the dj who still likes to mix. ross since, 1997, ross has been in the background of the westcoast canadian techno scene, particularly the victoria family that included mathew jonson, cobblestone jazz, the mole, and hrdvsion. in 1998, he released the now out-of-print compilation album ôgarden city dubs, that featured first material by mathew jonson, and cobblestone jazz. he left for california in æ98, but kept his finger on the pulse as the art director for itiswhatitis recordings. while in the bay area, he listened mostly to soul,rap and early american techno music. heavily influenced by his time spent in the u.s., he started to develop a musical aesthetic, which he is now ready to express. young florent florent moved to vancouver from switzerland to attend art school. he began to get into making techno. tapping into his french-martinique roots, florent quickly developed a unique sound, which caught rossÆs ear. a few live jams later, it was clear that they worked well together, so they got a studio space and got to work. one month later, dojo had its first release. florent has only been making music for a year, but his swiss work-ethic is dangerous
